cl. 'Perle d'Azur'
Raised by Morel in France in 1885. The classical 'blue' clematis, much sort after but not easy to propagate due to its long internodes. The semi-campanulate mid to light blue flowers associate so well with roses. The generally four-tepalled flowers have a round appearance due to the edges and tips of the tepals recurving. The tepals have a hint of pink towards their base and also on the reverse, which can almost be seen through the semi-translucent tepals. Pale yellow anthers. A free flowering plant, subject to mildew in some locations, flowering all along the stem to its growing tip. RHS Award of Garden Merit. |

cl. 'Pink Fantasy'
Introduced from Canada by Jim Fisk in 1975. A very good free flowering clematis similar in habit to cl. 'Hagley Hybrid'. The pretty 10cm (4in) wide flowers have pink tepals with peachy pink highlights and dusky red anthers. The deeper central bar is only prominent towards the base of the tepal. Due to its compact habit, it is a useful 'pink' to grow in a container for later flowering. Suitable as a cut flower. |

cl. 'Proteus'
Raised by Charles Noble of Sunningdale 1876. Large double, semi-double and single flowers. The double flowers often have green or purple pink outer tepals making the flower look untidy. However the centre is pretty with many inner soft pink/purple tepals. The early flowers are 15-20cm (6-8in) across, the semi-double flowers are more attractive, being of a similar size. The single flowers produced on new growth later in the summer are a soft mauve pink with pale yellow anthers. A vigorous growing plant when fully established, with large leaves. Best planted out of full sun but not north-facing. |
